Gas Price Review - Week Ending September 19, 2005

Last week PetroJam annouced that there would be no change in their ex-refinery prices despite the fact that by the end of the week oil prices had fallen to less that $64.00 per barrel of Oil. There is however a new threat as the horizon as tropical storm Rita heads to the Gulf of Mexico and should push oil prices upwards once again. As result and taking into consideration PetroJam's strange behaviour expect gas prices to moved the pumps in the coming week.

Average Prices
The average price of 87 Octane is $52.98, 90 Octane $56.50 and Diesel $48.32. The price range from $50.50 to $56.09, $52.84 - 59.72 and $46.39 to $50.99, for 87, 90 and Diesel respectively.

A quick comparison from of the average price off Petrol for the week ending June 12, 2005 and Sept. 19, 2005 reveals the following

Price Gouging & boycott
The number of email forwards we received this week about the issue of price gouging and boycotts increased this week. While price gouging might be occuring a total boycott might not be feasible. What consumers need to do is to shop wisely ensure that they are get the best deal while practising gas saving tips

There is a whopping $6.88 difference in Gasoline for the cheapest 90 Octane and the most expensive 90 Octane. The chart below completes the comparison.

It is good to see that this discussion is picking up and the next thing consumers need to do is to stop talking and act. Support the stations with lower prices & good quality gas and avoid the expense high priced gas stations.

Traffic in Kingston
In Kingston with school back in session, the traffic on the road has increased significantly and consumers will need to avoid the gridlocks. choosing routes, leaving earlier and opting for the premium bus service is an option that we might look on. There is nothing that results in a waste of gas than being stuck in standstill traffic.
