Gas Price Review - Week Ending August 21, 2005

This week, oil prices closed around the US$66 mark for a barrel of Oil. In Jamaica consumers received a double shock. Firstly the annoucement that Gas prices at the pump would move up by 8% and then the 66% increase in bus fares and the inposition off a single flat rate for one-way travel around Kingston Metropolitan Area. The rising oil prices will continue to hurt the pockets of Jamaican drivers.

The average price of 87 Octane is $48.30, 90 Octane $51.56 and Diesel $$45.31. The price range from $46.40 to $50.37, $48.60 to $54.09, and $44.14 to $48.01, for 87, 90 and Diesel respectively. A quick comparison from of the price off Petrol for the week ending June 12, 2005 and August 21, 2005 reveals the following

June 12August 21
$ per litre$ per litre
87$41.80$48.30
90$44.98$51.56
Diesel$41.10$45.31

So keep an eye on the rising oil prices and look to conserve. Choosing routes and driving times carefully, carpooling for the new school term will need to be seriously considered.
